ANNA QUAN
'THIS IS NICE’ SPEAKS WITH ANNA HOANG, FOUNDER OF ANNA QUAN, ABOUT HER SS22 COLLECTION
‘tIN’: Do you have a favourite piece from your new SS22 collection? We love the Elyse Dress in Apple and the Quinn Blazer in Black.
Anna Hoang: Call me boring, but the tailored stretch wool Albert Pant in the Sabbia colourway is one of my favourite pieces. The pant offers a flattering ankle length, and the recycled polyester wool blend with 2% elastane minimises wrinkling and creates a super-comfortable fit. I also love the pin stitch detailing along the length of the leg that creates an elevated mood - this hero basic ticks all my boxes in terms of design, versatility, wearability, and longevity.
‘TIN’: We were very drawn to the colours of this collection, the pops of blue, green, and fuchsia paired with your classic raven (black) and snow/cloud (white) feels especially fresh. What drew you to these particular colours?
Anna Hoang: From a colour palette perspective, I like to look at what is available - our textile and yarn partners release a collection of designs and colours that provide initial inspiration. The Apple Green however was quite special - we had this standout colour specifically custom dipped about 3 seasons prior. However, during the height of Covid, it didn’t feel like the right time to release it. We archived it for ‘better days’ - it’s vibrant and celebratory, and perfectly suited to the post-lockdown mood.

‘Tin’: Your work stands apart from the crowd with its elevated, effortless, and cool aesthetic while also staying comfortable. How do you find the right balance between your designs being not only stylish but also wearable?
Anna Hoang: The design and construction process includes numerous fittings (about 3-5 on average) and tests. We also ask our models how they feel in each garment whilst standing, sitting down, bending over, and swinging their arms up and down. It may sound strange to ask these sorts of questions, but assessing the overall comfort and range of motion for each piece is integral to my design process.
‘Tin’: Finally, what is next for Anna Quan? Do you have any plans for the upcoming Australian Fashion Week?
Anna Hoang: Without giving too much away, there will be some new, unique, sustainable, and super-stylish designs that will be unveiled during Afterpay Australian Fashion Week.
